HydraFacial or Clear + Brilliant? A straight comparison

These two get compared constantly, usually because they're described in similar language: brightening, refreshing, minimal downtime. The descriptions are similar. The treatments are not.

What each one is actually doing

A HydraFacial works on the surface. A spiral tip uses vortex suction to cleanse, exfoliate and extract, then pushes serums into freshly cleared skin. Nothing is wounded. You're removing what's sitting on top and replacing it with something better.

Clear + Brilliant is a fractional laser. It creates thousands of microscopic treatment zones in the skin, and the skin's repair response to those zones is what produces the change. You're not cleaning the surface; you're prompting the tissue underneath to renew itself.

That's the whole difference, and everything else follows from it.

What each one is good for

HydraFacial: congestion, dullness, dehydration, the general look of skin that's been through a hard fortnight. Immediate, reliable, repeatable.

Clear + Brilliant: texture, early fine lines, uneven tone and the beginnings of sun damage. Gradual, cumulative, structural.

If you want to look well-rested on Saturday, that's a HydraFacial. If you want your skin to be measurably smoother by summer, that's a course of Clear + Brilliant.

Downtime, honestly

HydraFacial has none. Some people look slightly flushed for an hour. You can wear makeup the same day.

Clear + Brilliant is usually described as having minimal downtime, and that's fair, but minimal isn't none. Expect warmth and redness like mild sunburn for a day, and a sandpapery texture for two or three days afterwards as the treated skin sheds. Most people are comfortable in public the next day and perfectly presentable by day three. Book it for a Thursday, not the morning of an event.

Cost, and how many you'll need

HydraFacial is $199 for the Signature, $249 for the Deluxe with targeted boosters, and $299 for the Platinum, which adds lymphatic drainage beforehand and LED afterwards. One treatment is a complete treatment. Every four to six weeks keeps skin in good order.

Clear + Brilliant is $349 per treatment, and it is genuinely a course — most people see the change they were hoping for after three to six sessions spaced a few weeks apart. A single session is not a fair test of it, which is worth knowing before you book one to find out.

Can you have both?

Yes, and plenty of people do, a Clear + Brilliant course to address the underlying texture, then a HydraFacial every four weeks to maintain it and handle the day-to-day. They're complementary rather than competing. We'd just space them out rather than stacking them in the same fortnight.

Which we'd suggest

If you've never had either, start with a HydraFacial. It's lower commitment, it tells us a lot about how your skin behaves, and a good number of people find it does what they were hoping the laser would do. If it doesn't, Clear + Brilliant is the logical next step and you'll go into it with an informed therapist rather than a guess.

Neither is right for every skin, which is why we consult before we treat. Come in and we'll look properly.
